If your desired renovation only involves painting, trim work, replacing flooring, and changing cabinetry or shelving, then no building permit is required. However, a building permit is required if the changes in your renovation will involve things like; altering existing walls, the removal or replacement of drywall, some electrical or plumbing work, or legalizing a suite.
